Bobby Lashley vs Chad Griggs Confirmed For StrikeForce Houston By HurtsBad.com

Hurtsbad.com has learned from sources close to one of the fighters that Bobby Lashley will face Chad Griggs at Strikeforce’s upcoming event in Houston Texas on August 21st.

The source revealed contracts have yet to be signed but agreements are in place to pit the two heavyweights against one another in The Lone Star State.

The source can not be named as they are not at liberty to discuss the details of the match up but solidly confirmed that this fight was on.

Lashley is undefeated at 5-0 with four stoppages. This will mark the former professional wrestler’s second fight under the Strikeforce banner.

Griggs has been out of action for little more than a year but looks to bounce back against the rising star of Lashley.

He is 8-1 with eight stoppages. His only loss suffered by submission to Shane Ott of the IFL more than three years ago.

This is an interesting match up as Griggs stands to gain quite a bit more than Lashley if he emerges with his hand raised. While Griggs is a dangerous fighter he is not well known amongst the casual MMA fan.

Lashley on the other hand is a name brand based on the stardom he found as a pro wrestler. If Griggs comes out on top, becoming the first to introduce Lashley to the loss column, it will boost him into the view of many casual viewers.

The opportunity to compete with Lashely provides plenty of exposure for a fighter looking to break back in after a year lay off from the game.

Griggs poses a great opportunity for Lashley as well. Griggs is a well seasoned fighter with an impressive record. Lashleys win over Wes Sims was painful to watch as Sims was not impressive in the slightest.

Griggs will look to be a dangerous challenger for Lashley and if Lashley can come out on top he will have notched another win over an impressive mixed martial artist.

Another understory to this match up is the match up of fight camps. While Lashley competes out of the world class and world renowned American Top Team, Griggs is competing out of the little known but up and coming Apex MMA.

Speaking of great opportunities, this is a huge opening for the Tucson based Apex MMA to show that they mean business by competing with the ATT product in Lashley.

ATT has a reputation that spans the globe and their fighters are world class and well known in all walks of the sport. If a fan or fighter doesn't recognize the name, they might need to do some homework.

Joey “Boom Boom” Rivera’s Apex MMA on the other hand is just beginning to make ripples across the sport. Apex has had fighters signed with the UFC, The Ultimate Fighter, Bellator, and Strikeforce most recently.

It is an interesting collection of mixing and matching of competition between fighters and camps on a great card that will showcase two Strikeforce title fights.

Either way, this looks to be a step in the right direction for both fighters as they look to take steps towards the Strikeforce HW title. If either of them can seize the moment they may be only a win or two away from a shot at that belt.

Good luck to them both as they surely will need it. Both are dangerous fighters in their own respects.
